The first BHSEC Garden Committee meeting was held in the library today. We seem to have a great group of enthusiastic and really nice people with ideas and skills that compliment each other. (From this meeting I have decided that gardeners and garden lovers are good people to know and work with.)
The members have a variety of gardening experience. Many have gardens in their back yards, on their roofs, at their country houses, or in a community plot. One is a professional landscape designer, another works for the Parks Department in charge of Battery Park and one does stories on ecology and things green for WNYC online.
After making some plans for planting and for grant writing, we all went outside and visited the garden. Sonia, the founder and main creator of the garden thus far, showed us around and told us the story of her trials with watering the garden last summer [click here to see a slide show of the story]. She certainly was dedicated in her work and in her vision and now seems to have attracted a really good group of people to help. The garden is going to be AWESOME this summer!
